Celebrated on or around July 7 each year, Tanabata 七夕 (The Seventh Night) is a Japanese festival celebrating the day the two star-crossed lovers Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair) can meet. One of the most common traditions involves writing wishes on colorful paper strips called “tanzaku” and hanging them to bamboo branches.
